It’s that time of year again: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2021 nominees on Wednesday morning. Some they nailed, others they missed… it’s time to discuss!
Who Got Nominated?
This year’s class definitely has some serious heavy hitters. They are:
Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, and Dionne Warwick.
Let’s Break It Down…
All in all, seven of those 16 acts feature women, with two of those women already in the Rock Hall: Carole King’s songwriting earned her Rock Hall entry in the non-performer category, and Tina Turner was previously inducted as part of the duo Ike & Tina Turner.
One other nominee, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, was previously inducted, as part of Nirvana.
Impressively, Foo Fighters and rap megastar Jay-Z have each found themselves on the ballot during their FIRST YEAR of eligibility — which is NOT an easy task. Meanwhile, five other artists have made their way onto the ballot for the FIRST time after a few years of already being eligible, including: The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden (hell yes!), Mary J. Blige, Fela Kuti, and Dionne Warwick.
That’s pretty good… Pretty good… But doesn’t it feel like we’re missing some obvious choices? We think so!
Here Are Men’s Humor’s Official Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame SNUBS For 2021:
1. Van Halen
No single band helped define hard rock through the late 70s and 80s more than Van Halen… and with so much style!!! With All-Time-Great Eddie Van Halen shredding on the axe, Diamond David Lee Roth bringing the scissor kick to music, and the other two dudes — Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony — doing whatever they did to contribute, it’s never really been clear, Van Halen undoubtedly became one of the most important bands ever. So why aren’t they on the ’21 ballot? There’s no excuse!
2. David Lee Roth
David Lee Roth is arguably the greatest frontman to ever live. His unforgettable voice and signature shriek were only ever topped by the next-level athleticism and energy he brought to every live show he played. Of course, you may know Diamond Dave as the lead singer of Van Halen… but beyond that, Diamond D had his own remarkable career as a solo artist. So why isn’t he on the ballot? It simply doesn’t make sense. David Lee Roth is an icon, and deserves better than this!

3. Alex Van Halen
Alex Van Halen is one of the most underrated drummers of the 20th century. The guy may not have been the flashiest, but he kept time with the best of them, and even gave us this tasty, iconic beat:
Anyway, we could sit here all day and rattle off a bunch of other snubs if we had time, but I don’t have time right now. In any event, we can safely say this: We want to learn MORE about how the Rock and Roll HOF works, and until then, we are PISSED. Thank you! Goodbye.
