ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — An insanely popular mobile betting platform is looking to expand upon the myriad ways we can gamble. They’re putting it to the test in 2021. According to a report from the Associated Press, DraftKings is partnering with “the Drone Racing League, in which pilots fly serial drones in races.”
Pop the champagne boys, we got more stuff to bet our hard earned money on! Actually, scrap the champaign and grab a PBR.
This weekend marks the beginning of what DraftKings and the Drone Racing League hopes will be a very lucrative friendship. According to Forbes, “bettors will be able to place real-time wagers before and during events as pilots maneuver custom-build racing drones at 90 mph via first-person view (FPV) through obstacle courses on both the DRL Simulator and in real life.” The betting begins Friday on Twitter, before the live events.
“Consumer research has shown that drone racing fans are three times more likely to place a bet than fans of major sports leagues, and are 90% more likely to be interested in sports betting in general than the average sports fan” according to the AP. It’s not clear yet why the new sport is so conducive to gambling. However, if the data is there and DraftKings can find a way to turn a good profit while simultaneously keeping fans safe during a pandemic, they’ll do it.
More Ways To Gamble
There seems to be no shortage of ways to gamble these days. For fun, here are a few other ideas of sports to bet on. These ideas are totally free, btw.
• Of your best buddies, which can catch a lobster barehanded the fastest?
• One of your kids has to figure out where the circuit breaker in the house is. Who can do it first? Don’t put too much pressure on them though, Jesus. No Bean Dads allowed.
The list could go on and on. The human race’s ability to find new things to gamble on is seemingly endless. Even in the face of catastrophic adversity, the will to give our money away will never truly die. It’s inspiring, a little sad, and ultimately a way to kill some time.
