WASHINGTON D.C. – With the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden just a few short weeks away, supporters of soon-to-be-outgoing President Donald Trump have begun pouring into Washington to protest the results of the 2020 Election. While many powerful Republican lawmakers have begun distancing themselves from claims that the vote was somehow rigged, one GOP politician in particular has especially attracted the ire of Trump’s base; Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah).
That ire culminated this morning as Romney was heckled relentlessly by Trump supporters while traveling on a flight to D.C.
No matter how you feel about Mitt Romney’s political leanings or whether or not you think this heckling was warranted, we can all agree that Mitt Romney has a pretty intense airport horror story to tell his friends now! Damn!
It all started while Mitt Romney was sitting at the Salt Lake City airport waiting to board a flight to D.C for a joint session of Congress to certify the election victory of Joe Biden. As Mitt waited patiently to board his flight (likely watching the latest Christopher Nolan film Tenet), he was confronted by a Trump supporter who asked him why he had not supported the sitting president in the election or in his (largely baseless) claims of election fraud.
Yikes. Traveling long distances is already stressful enough, and having to deal with fellow airport dwellers is not something anyone looks forward to. Mitt Romney definitely has a pretty spectacular travel horror story to bust out at parties. That’s something we all need in our back pockets to fill the lull in-between conversations sometimes!
While Senator Romney has not released a statement following the altercations, President Trump doubled down on Wednesday at a rally and referenced the heckling saying he wondered if Romney “enjoyed his flight in.”
Holy cow. Not many people can say their airport horror story was referenced by the President of the United States, that’s for sure. Good luck to all of Mitt Romney’s friends! There’s no way you can top that story!
