The grad student who was on the cruise said that the one chicken nugget was "delicious... not a McDonald's nugget... but a solid 6/10."
Traveling abroad isn't always easy and figuring out what to do while we are there can be downright difficult. Finding the "perfect" restaurant to eat at or the best tourist spot to visit can be tricky by sifting through online reviews and travel guides.
Allison Kuhn, an American graduate student studying abroad, recently discovered this the hard way, reports BuzzFeed. Allison and her friends decided to make a trip to Istanbul after studying in Israel. They wanted to enjoy a night out while visiting. Bonus points if they could get a good view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
"I booked a dinner cruise for us so we could enjoy seeing the city at night," Allison said. "I searched 'dinner cruise' on Tripadvisor, where I found one for $75 per person, the nicest dinner cruise in the area." Her TikTok video recounting the experience went viral, and it reveals what happened after they boarded the cruise. The caption says it all, "I booked us a '5-star dinner cruise' where our entrée was 1 singular chicken nugget."
Allison also shared that they never tried the different dips which almost look like scoops of ice cream so their best guess is that it was hummus. The dinner rolls were all individually wrapped in plastic. In the background, we can also hear the server ask Allison's friend, "Chicken nugget?" Allison's friend responds, "Yes, please, looks delicious."
"Ooooh, chicken nuggets!" exclaims another friend.
As Allison explains in another video, a photographer approached each guest individually to take headshots before the friends sat down for their meal. There are no group shots of the smiling, laughing friends—only solo shots. "As we're all just laughing about the chicken nugget, a woman comes around and slaps down these photos of us," Allison said. "Framed, individual headshots. Of each of us! Hands down, this was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed."
In the original video, her friends laugh hysterically while a server, according to @opervysage in the comments, "tosses" one chicken nugget onto each plate "like he's feeding the animals." There were a few jokes in the comments about the recent film The Menu, in which rich people dine on an unexpected Michelin-starred meal. "The Menu (Deleted Scene)" commented @surviv3r.
The most frequently asked TikTok question was about how the chicken nugget tasted. Allison shared that the nugget was "delicious." She went on to say that it was "not a McDonald's nugget... but a solid 6/10." In a filmed taste test of the nugget, she described it as having a "smooth undercarriage" and being "crispy on the inside."
In the follow-up video to her original viral TikTok video, she makes it clear that while she joked about the "singular chicken nugget" they had been served, she and her friends had a great time. "Honestly, everyone on board was so nice," she said in the video. "I've never laughed so much in my life. I would do it again." Anyway, it is good to beware of such restaurants and... pranks.
