Actor Wins Internet With Hilariously Accurate Video About Working for the “Chill Millennial Manager”

It seems from the video, which has 9 million plus views, that millennial managers show much more empathy when supervising their subordinates.

The generation of millennials has a lot to laugh and cry about and they mostly prefer doing it over social media. Sometimes there are witty content creators who happen to be 90s kids and they know exactly what the crowd wants to see and hear. They just want some relatable content that can also induce nostalgia at times. Talking about generational differences can be difficult at workplaces which is why a TikTok creator @irxpley has made a video about how a “chill millennial manager” would act at work. Honestly, it seems the millennial generation has a lot more empathy when it comes to supervising their subordinates.

A 26-year-old non-binary actor named Amanda Ripley has been making videos on the platform for quite some time and one of their videos has recently blown up to 9 million plus views. Ripley pays homage to the “chill millennial manager” archetype which is extremely accurate.

In the video, Ripley acts as a chill millennial boss talking to employees in a food service job and they start by saying, "Oh my god, Ripley, you're six minutes late, what the hell? I'm just kidding. That'd be me if I cared, though." They also suggest how they have to comply with annoying corporate rules and generally embody that one laid-back millennial boss we all know and admire.

"Honestly, I know that you were right and that I shouldn't have given the customer that food for free, but I just don't feel like dealing with it, and I'm kind of hung over today and I haven't, like, worked out how to grow a backbone in therapy. So this is me pretending to give you a stern talking-to until they're gone," Ripley says at a point. Anyone who might have worked in the restaurant industry might find this highly relatable.

"What's this? Two weeks' notice? Ripley. Oh my god. Dammit. No, it's really great. I'm really happy for you. Get out of here. I just realized that I have to hire someone else now. Maybe I'll quit too. Where are you going? Do they have benefits?" they say at the end of the funny clip. Ripley also responded to Buzzfeed over email and talked about the backstory of this viral video.

They disclosed that they often take on service jobs between gigs to support their budding acting career and they've worked with all kinds of managers. "Some people become a manager and, with the small amount of power they’re given, use it to lord over you. They flex their power over you at every opportunity, treat you as a child, discipline you for wearing the wrong shade of shirt or something equally meaningless," Ripley revealed to the outlet.

"The chill millennial manager, on the other hand, sympathizes and relates with their team members rather than their higher-ups. Because millennials joined the workforce in the wake of the neoliberal economic reforms of the '80s and '90s, they’ve become disaffected with the socioeconomic structure in general," they added.

So, all the millennials reading this, are you one of these chill managers or do you have the greatest luck to have a chill manager at work?
