'Parks and Recreation' Stars Adam Scott and Amy Poehler's Playful Banter Steals the Show at 2023 SAG Awards
It’s been a while since the uber-popular sitcom, Parks and Recreation wrapped up after a successful 7-season run. But the fans of this show still gush over the adorable characters who made us laugh till we dropped.
Two fan-favorite characters, Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt, were entertaining themselves and us with their usual banter again but this time, it was on the stage of the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Amy Poehler and Adam Scott, who played the characters of Knope and Wyatt respectively, turned the 2023 award ceremony into an unofficial Parks and Recreation reunion, reports HuffPost. The NBC comedy series aired from 2009 to 2015 and those attending the SAG Awards were well-acquainted with the characters they played.
The duo took to the stage to present the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. Poehler and Scott engaged in a playful banter before announcing Jean Smart as the winner of the award for her performance in Hacks. Truth be told, it reminded us of the good old days when Knope and Wyatt, who were a married couple, used to have these little feuds.
Scott, who has been nominated for his portrayal of Mark S. on Severance in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series category, spoke up with a deadpan expression first. "I just want to say I’m thrilled to be here," he said. Poehler didn't waste another second to reply and told Scott that it would have been better if he "goes to smoke cigarettes and wear a leather jacket with all the drama people."
As the audience in attendance burst into laughter, Scott bit back at Poehler and said, "You know what? Maybe I will because it's impossible to get a real moment from any of you comedy types." Poehler might have taken a dig at Scott for switching to the drama shows from comedy and left the internet in awe but we also applauded Scott's witty retort.
However, this year, Poehler and Scott weren’t the only Parks and Recreation stars attending the SAG Award ceremony. Poehler was also spotted posing with her sitcom co-star Aubrey Plaza, who was famed for playing April Ludgate. To the delight of the fans, there have been a number of Parks and Recreation reunions this year.
Poehler and Plaza reprised their iconic roles on a Saturday Night Live Segment called Weekend Update which aired in January 2023. The actresses poked fun at the pros and cons of the local government during the comic segment. Earlier this month, Plaza and Poehler also reunited with Kathryn Hahn and Rashida Jones—who played Jennifer Barkley and Ann Perkins on the show—and had a blast celebrating Galentine's Day, per Entertainment Weekly.
