Parents-to-be search far and wide for their yet-to-be-born baby's name, poring over books of different cultures, asking for suggestions and looking for inspiration in unlikely places. Celebrities are no exception. But few people end up naming their kid "Genital." Amy Schumer was that parent.

On the latest episode of her podcast, Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith, Schumer divulged the truth about changing her baby's name almost a year later. Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer announced the birth of their baby in May 2019 and they were thrilled to have an addition to their family. The name, too, was a special one. Gene Attell Fischer was the comedian's son's name—the middle name being a meaningful tribute to their friend, comedian David Attell. How thoughtful of them!

But what persuaded them to change their son's beautiful name after a year? During the podcast episode, the mom of one re-introduced her baby as Gene David Fischer. Why? She revealed the reason in the podcast, "So do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name, is officially changed? It's now Gene David Fischer." Well, nothing wrong with the new name but it had a hilarious reason behind it.

'Attell' was a reference to their fellow comedian and the actress' friend, Dave Attell. But the couple realized after 11 months that his name sounded like "genital." Wait, what? Yes, as Schumer herself shared further on the podcast, "It was Gene Attell Fischer but we realized that we by accident named our son 'genital,'" per PEOPLE. But who first figured out that the name is rather explicit? The answer to that was too found on the podcast as Schumer's longtime friend and the podcast guest, Claudia O'Doherty, shared it was her mother. O'Doherty said, "My mom pointed that out to me actually. My mom was like, 'Amy's called her son 'genital.' And I was like, 'What are you talking about? And then, she was right."

Upon careful consideration, the parents realized that their son's first and middle names are explicitly ambiguous and also suggestive—'Genital Fischer.' It did not take much time for Schumer and her husband Fischer to backtrack as no one wants to name their kid "genital." However, fortunately, Schumer and her husband ended up killing two birds with one stone. The new name, Gene David Fischer is still a tribute to their friend whose first name was David and honors Schumer's father whose middle name is also David. All's well that ends well.
