Athlete’s Romantic Proposal After His Ironman Race Turns Into Laugh Riot as He Cramps and Falls

In recent years, public proposals have become quite the craze. What was once a private moment has been turned into a public event that at least one party intends to share with the world. Some see these grand proposals as bold and meaningful declarations of love. Others believe that all the attention puts pressure on the other party to say "Yes." This can lead to an awkward situation if the wedding hasn't been planned ahead of time. 

These bold declarations of love are risky and since they are not done in private, they become a pile of amusement for the people watching. Marti Alt had just completed the difficult Ironman race when he got down on one knee in front of everyone watching. After completing a 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, and 42.2 km run, he did not feel tired (at least mentally) because he was about to propose to his girlfriend, Viibeke. However, things took a turn for the worse when he fell to the ground, legs cramping painfully as Viibeke waited for him to pop the question. Oops.

Though we aren't aware of what prompted the much exhausted Alt to propose to Viibeke in this manner, his video has gone viral several times now, both for the unusual timing and the unexpected way in which the race impacted him before he could finish the task at hand. The video on TikTok has managed to receive 95.5 thousand likes. Most proposals revolve around the one who is being proposed to but this one for sure made news for the one who was proposing. We do feel really bad for Alt to be going through such pain but the sight of him crashing at the significant moment has managed to crack up many of us.  

Several people suggested that Alt proposing to his girlfriend at the end of his Ironman run made the moment all about him. Others pointed out that we don't know anything about their relationship. This type of proposal would not work for every couple, but enough time has passed for us to know how things turned out for Alt and Viibeke and it appears that for her, this proposal was perfect. After all, she ended up saying yes and they married last year.

His motivation and efforts were very commendable and the couple might have made this a memorable proposal for themselves. But the comments on their video were a laugh riot. "This is the least romantic and most bizarre proposal I've ever seen," wrote @lawandlattes. "Well done sir! That will be the most memorable cramp ever. Lol," commented @bonkersclub. "His body was trying to stop him, red flag," joked @bradk1000. "Most self-indulgent proposal ever..." said @15sete. "Why does the cramping make it even better? solid performance sir!" added @brutallybald. "She didn't even help, was just standing," pointed out @alyonaclarke. 

This will surely be the "most memorable cramp" for both Alt and his now-wife's life.
