Well, it seems like Ryan from Melbourne had a bit of a wild ride and not the kind you'd find at an amusement park! The poor guy fell asleep in a taxi on a freeway, only to wake up to a whopping bill of $468. Talk about a rude awakening!

Apparently, Ryan is a seasoned rider and even knows a fair share of regular drivers on the route. However, this time, he made the mistake of hopping into the last cab waiting at the airport after his flight was delayed. Little did he know that he was in for a ride that would cost him more than his monthly grocery bill, reports 7NEWS Australia

Ryan took to TikTok to post about the encounter and how he was charged the large fare for an hour-long journey from Melbourne Airport to the suburb of Berwick— about a 75-km-long trip.

Ryan found himself in the middle of a heated argument with the driver as soon as he questioned the exorbitant fare. "I just drive you from the airport. There's tolls on the way, there's a freeway," the taxi driver said, defending the fare. "I'm a new taxi driver. I just know what the meter is saying. How are you going to pay, buddy?"

Automated taxi fare calculators revealed that the fare charged to Ryan was almost two and a half times the regular cost of the journey, which typically falls within the range of $146 to $161 during peak hours.

Ryan continued to question the fare, asking how the trip amounted to such a high price after he "fell asleep for 20-30 minutes." The driver very defensively said, "Buddy stop complaining about me, okay? I'm a taxi driver, not a bank manager." Ryan said, "I don't usually complain but how do we figure this out?" to which the driver replied, "Buddy, how about you pay the money and tomorrow you check what the f*** this is."

Ryan was questioning whether the amount mentioned included a booking fee or a card surcharge, as it remains unclear to him."You've put more on there," he said, to which the driver responded, "Buddy, please just give me your card." Ryan eventually paid the fare and said that he is going to follow up on what exactly went wrong.

Let's just say that he might want to invest in some hot coffee before hopping into a cab next time!
