The MSCHF press release reads: "Cartoon boots for a Cool 3D World. If you kick someone in these boots, they go BOING!"
Celebrities and brands consistently deliver wildly over-the-top fashion-style moments. The footwear industry, in particular, has been in the news many times for making outlandish designs too. The latest craze is a pair of big red boots from the brand MSCHF.

The recent fashion trend in footwear that spawned countless memes and is likely to make you go "WTH" is The Big Red Boot. MSCHF (an abbreviated form of "mischief") designed and created playfully giant red boots which are goofy, hopelessly round, and almost identical to the Japanese manga character Astro Boy's boots. The abnormally large boots have taken over social media ever since the New York Fashion Week witnessed many influencers wearing these boots.

The provocative New York-based brand—which is also responsible for Lil Nas X's satan sneakers—said in a press release: "Cartoon boots for a Cool 3D World. If you kick someone in these boots, they go BOING!"
People across social media have had some extreme opinions about the boots. Instagram user,@slighthaus wrote: "These boots are high art. I don't care what anyone says." Meanwhile, @aureoescobar seemed to be in a real dilemma while writing, "Half of me is like what happened to everyone? The other half of me just wants it right now."

Twitter is not far behind either. Twitter user @Statixlilcrowl2 wrote, "Bro someone finds for me [and] I'll buy right now." A second Twitter user, @ToninoM, quipped: "For when you want to look like a cartoon character."
Some joined in the criticism of the boots and called them outright outlandish. A Tweet by @engxl, reads: "I had a nightmare that I was being chased by big red boots." Instagram user @the1point8 found the boots unnecessary and wrote: "$350 to look like a clown. Not worth the purchase."
While MSCHF has always challenged conventional norms through its designs, this time they have really outdone themselves with these big red boots. Most content that's surfacing on social media is by influencers who got the boots as a PR package. Surprisingly, those who wore them found the boots to be heavy but comfortable.

YouTube content creator, Steve Natto, tried out a pair himself and this is what he had to say about them to Mashable: "The first thing that hit me was just the size of the box. The box was just really big and way bigger than any other sneaker box I think I have ever seen. And, you know, my feet are size 10, so I can only imagine what a size 13 would be like they're just really really big." He added that the shoes are actually comfortable to walk around in because of how the brand has designed the insole.
Rebelling against the norm, MSCHF wrote: "Cartoonishness is an abstraction that frees us from the constraints of reality." However, this video on Twitter shows another painful risk of trying on the boots. He doesn't seem to mind it that much though. We sincerely hope he was able to get out of the boots.
