Do you prefer mayonnaise or butter? The American classic grilled cheese sandwich has a new face, courtesy of the budding chef Brooklyn Beckham. He recently uploaded the sandwich tutorial on Instagram but trollers attacked him mercilessly. His culinary skills failed to impress his followers and the recipe backfired.

The 24-year-old's seemingly delicious video of everyone's beloved sandwich turned controversial because his recipe was far from the traditional. Disclaimer: He blowtorched pieces of sandwich. The typical American-style grilled cheese sandwich is an easy whip. Just take two slabs of bread, some cheese and finally, a knob of butter...and it's ready to be gorged on. Effortless right? Well, not the one Beckham made. Beckham Junior's new take on the grilled cheese sandwich required ample ingredients which were absolutely unnecessary, according to some people. He captioned the tutorial as "Lunch today! @chosenfoods avocado oil and mayo are the secrets to a crispy and delicious grilled cheese."

The young chef started by spraying avocado oil on his utensil. He roughly chopped some onion and sauteed it in the oil. He then took some chopped mushrooms and whacked the ingredients in the hot pan. The recipe then required him to season some truffle salt and pepper onto the veggies. Then he sauteed the veggies until they turned slightly golden brown. Next, he put in the bread slices on which he spread dollops of mayonnaise. Tired? Don't be because this version of the sandwich wasn't ready yet. Chef Beckham then sprayed more avocado oil and quickly toasted one slab of bread. He topped the slice with his veggies (onions and mushrooms) and layered them with two cheese slices. Then came the second bread slab, which went on top of the sandwich with the final layer of mayonnaise. PHEW!

We haven't mentioned one unusual step yet. Beckham cut the sandwich in half and finished off the delicacy with a blowtorch. (But why?) The video was uploaded on April 25, 2023 and within a day, it received massive backlash from offended Americans. The short clip received thousands of views, and many were curious. So are we. An Instagram user, @stonemasonisgodsgift commented, "So extra for a sandwich." Another user, @luschmur declared, "Well then, it is no longer a grilled cheese, buddy." True loyalists, indeed.

A group of people had issues with his oil spraying technique. @natcronin05 wrote, "Do not try this at home; sprays oil directly onto the fire." A user, @guyco1970, advised, "Please don't use aerosol spray over gas that is on. Move the pan to the side first." However, a loyal Beckham group defended him. @giovanna.msouza said, "Why so much hate in the comments? Something is wrong with you people, not with the sandwich!! Peace." @emdybrunette compared him with his dad and wrote, "As he gets older & mature, he looks & sounds more like his father." Beckham often treats his fans with his travel photos and frequent culinary skills and poses alongside his gorgeous family and wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham.
