His followers pointed out that in one "what I eat in a day" video on TikTok, he had consumed a Walkers potato chip that could have won him a fortune.
Cory, a 26-year-old TikTok user from Cardiff, Wales, recently found that he had made a mistake that cost him £100,000 ($1,20,318.50). Cory regularly posts "what I eat in a day" videos on the platform, which is a popular format amongst social media users. It was in one such video that his followers pointed out that Cory had consumed a Walkers crisp that could have won him a fortune.
Cory had failed to spot an advert on the chips packet which announced that Walkers were offering £100,000 ($1,20,318.50) to one lucky winner who found the best heart-shaped crisp in their packet. He later went back to review the video, and sure enough there it was—the heart-shaped cheese and onion crisp. He and his girlfriend, Lea, couldn't believe their eyes and burst into laughter. Cory had no time to be angry but he was just shocked. Cory even knew what he would have done with the money if he had won—a holiday, house renovations, and charity donations.
But unfortunately, those plans all turned to dust as he bit down on the crisp. After hearing about Cory's misfortune, a Walkers' spokesperson said: "Such a shame that Cory has eaten that crisp! We do need to be fair to all the other Walkers fans that have followed our competition T&Cs and held onto their crisp for safekeeping, so I'm afraid we won't be able to accept his entry this time around."
There's still time if Cory wants to enter the contest. Thankfully, most of us will never have to find out what it feels like to make such a costly mistake, but unfortunately, it was too late for Cory. It took Cory almost six days to realize his mistake when he and his girlfriend Lea watched the video back and saw the crisp. They did a comparison with a packet of Walkers that Lea had and that's when it hit him. He had just eaten a very costly prize.
Cory continued, "Lea then phoned her dad to explain and he didn't believe that I'd done it. Most people had the same reaction and didn't believe me until I showed them the video and then they all burst into laughter." His colleagues at work too did not believe him until he showed them the video. "It's a good job I do my 'what I eat in a day' videos so that I could prove it," he added. While some might have burst into tears at the missed opportunity, Cory said he and his girlfriend Lea burst into laughter. That's quite the spirit!
Cory's story is certainly an unfortunate one. It is important to be vigilant when it comes to following competition rules, as you never know when your luck might change and you could be a winner. While it may not have plumped up his wallet, here's hoping the crisp at least proved to be a satisfying snack for Cory.
