Supersaver Boyfriend Gets Roasted for His Ridiculous Grocery Hack While Buying Bananas | “That’s a Cheapskate”

Inflation is at its peak and this woman's boyfriend is taking extreme precautions to beat the unstoppable price hikes. However, when his girlfriend shared the "cheap" grocery hack on social media, people disapproved of his frugality. In fact, most netizens labeled him a miser and advised the girl to dump him and run for her life.
Australian influencers Mason and Mai @savingforboba have an account on TikTok. A hardly 8-second video was posted on May 22, 2023, where the man (Mason) could be seen peeling grocery store bananas before weighing them. The text inlay on the video read, "How my frugal boyfriend saves money on his bananas." The video has been watched over 800K times.
The super-saver boyfriend divided the internet though most responses declare his money-saving hack as "cheapskate." The couple shares frequent lifestyle-related content on their joint TikTok account. Mai, the girlfriend admitted in the video caption that his banana hack gives her "secondhand embarrassment."

The duo also shares tips on how to enjoy life without breaking the bank. The clip shows Mason, the boyfriend peeling the banana, placing it in a plastic bag and heading to the self-checkout grocery store. He then puts the peeled banana on a scale and voila, the fruit generates a lower price than it generally would with its skin on. Woah!

The audience sparked debate over whether the hack is effective or time waste. A TikTok user, @claudiusmaximus77 suggested an extreme idea to Mai and wrote, "Break up with him and call the cops." Too much. Another TikTok user, @amantetico declared, "That's not frugal; that's a Penny pincher." Well, that's debatable.
@jayjayokay0001 quipped, "The weight of the plastic bag and the cost added must be giving him sleepless nights." LOL!! @bootleg_yasumi joked, "Like that one lady who picks grapes by how many she's gonna eat."
Another TikTok user, @lost.myself.in.the.sauce calculated, "The peel accounts for 31 to 33% of the total weight of the banana. So bro is getting 33% off. LMAO!" @wozinomicon scoffed, "I don't think I have ever spent more than 2 dollars on bananas." @citysniffersdogclub snarked, "That's not frugal. That's a cheapskate."
Maison has a previous record of going viral for his insufferable stinginess. The couple, known for their frequent thrifty ideas to survive, have resorted to innovative but slightly controversial ways. They often ask for freebies from brands shamelessly. In a past video, the couple visited the fast-food chain Taco Bell and wanted a fizzy drink but wasn't keen on paying for it. The chain has a service where you can re-fill once you have paid for the drink. So to avoid paying, Mason picked up a used cup from the road in the car park and headed to the re-fill station. Not cool.

Netizens were highly unimpressed by this "hack," even more than this banana video. A TikToker, @simmerelise, cautioned, "That's a massive red flag. Time for a new boyfriend." @mrsmith1011 was appalled and wrote, "That is gross, don't know where it has been and if the other person was ill."
