Sassy Craigslist Ad Seeks a Partner for "Narcissistic" Mother-In-Law to Keep Her From Ruining the Wedding

"Conversationalist, De-escalator, good dancer, experience with narcissists is an added plus," the ad stated.

Afraid of a hot-headed, narcissistic mother-in-law ruining your wedding day? Here's a tip: get her a partner. At least, that's the idea the folks behind this Craigslist ad seemed to have. According to a screenshot of the advertisement posted on Reddit by u/elledekker, a would-be daughter/son-in-law decided to look for a wedding date for their "narcissistic" mother-in-law to avoid drama at their ceremony. The Reddit post was captioned, "Karen needs a date!"

The riotous ad offered a whooping $1000 to any interested prospects and expected them to have the skill set to de-escalate and distract the mother-in-law as and when matters got out of hand. "She needs constant attention and supervision. She will probably wear white and try to escalate small dramas — your job is to distract and de-escalate," it stated.

The ad further reads that the job would be for two days and the prospect should be a prodigious dancer, conversationalist, and master in dealing with narcissists. "Conversationalist, De-escalator, good dancer, experience with narcissists is an added plus," it stated, adding that the potential date should pretend to be a wedding guest interested in sitting or dancing with the mother-in-law.

The man should be "able to pretend you happen to be a guest interested in sitting/dancing with the mother-in-law," the ad stated. The job also includes keeping the mother-in-law engaged to ensure the ceremony goes smoothly. Well, that's one hell of a task.

The details of the ad also mention that any potential suitors should be between 40-50 years old and describe the megalomaniac MIL as 51 years old, slim, and attractive. The stakes get higher as the ad further demands that he "should be able to give her your undivided attention" and should have his own suit to wear. The ad also promises to provide background information on the conceited woman and wedding guests in addition to conversation topics to keep her engaged.

The deal gets dangerously exciting as the ad poster assures to cover the food and travel expenses apart from the reward money along with a "hotel room (your own, of course)."

They asked applicants to provide a photo and an impressive intro. "Please send a photo of yourself and a quick blurb indicating your interest/qualifications. You will also need to be able to OK with us running a background check on you just for safety's sake," the ad states.

The sassy listing generated curious and hysterical comments from Reddit users. @thebluereddituser seemed down to take up the offer and wrote: "Hell for $1000 I might even boy mode for 2 days. I'd have to think about it." Another Reddit user, @PirateyDawn, claimed to have relevant experience and said, "Same, I’m free in August and great with narcissists. I’m related to several."

Meanwhile, @Lord_Ho-Ryu, thought the job isn't worth $1000 and wrote, "If it’s paid hourly, I agree. Otherwise, hell no. I’m not dealing with someone who will clearly cause a scene, at a wedding, that I’m in no way invested in, just for a measly grand."

Another Reddit user replied: "But at $1000 for 2 days, that's like $20 per hour, and you wouldn't even be with her the full 48 hours."
