David Byrne Waves Iconic Hot Dog Fingers in Hilarious 'This Is a Life' Performance With Stephanie Hsu at The Oscars

The singer donned the goofy prop from the 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' film which won 7 major awards and 11 nominations at the Oscars.

People who have seen Everything Everywhere All At Once will always remember certain moments and some now-iconic props from the film after its historic win at the 2023 Oscars. The film directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert dominated the award ceremony with 7 major wins and received well-deserved accolades. This Is A Life is a track from the film which was nominated in the best song category at the 95th Academy Awards. Even though it did not win against RRR's Naatu Naatu, David Byrne, Stephanie Hsu, and the band Son Lux delivered a captivating live performance of the song. But Byrne made sure to make this a memorable performance as he took to the stage wearing "hot dog fingers" which were featured in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The Scottish-American singer was looking dapper in an all-white suit as he was accompanied by similarly dressed backup dancers. The well-choreographed version of the soundtrack as Son Lux played their music and the film's Raccacoonie character was featured on the screen behind them. The performance ended with Hsu and Byrne at the center of the stage as Byrne showed off his elongated sausage-shaped fingers which made a reference to the hot dog fingers displayed in the film's one of the many alternate universes. Critically acclaimed indie singer-songwriter Mitski who co-performed the original This Is A Life with Byrne was unfortunately not present at the ceremony to perform.

However, Hsu, who starred in the film, took a momentary break from her acting duty and filled in for Mitski and accompanied Byrne in the magical performance. Byrne is no stranger to Oscar's stage as he has bagged his own Oscar for scoring the 1988 best picture winner, The Last Emperor along with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Cong Su. Hsu was also nominated this year in the best supporting actress category but lost the award to co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, per Billboard

Everything Everywhere All At Once received a combined total of 11 Oscar nods and took home the best film, best director, best actress, best supporting actress, and best-supporting actor trophies with Michelle Yeoh becoming the first Asian woman to receive this prestigious honor. This Is A Life faced off against strong competitors in the best original song category like Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick.
