Dentist Hygienist's Advice for Families to Share the Same Toothbrush Is a Nightmare for Neat Freaks

If you are a neat freak germaphobe, you probably can't stand the idea of using someone else's personal items. Sharing a towel or soap bar with a family member or friend makes you queasy and you definitely don't like sharing the same cutlery items either. Well, then this dentist's claims on TikTok are bound to give you a nightmare.
Dental hygienist, Jessica O'Connor (@jesspotter_xx), dropped the internet's collective jaw when she posted a video in which she recommends that people share their toothbrushes with the rest of their family members and claimed that it’s completely fine to do so. She also suggested that people use supermarket toothpaste as it gives the same results as other expensive brands.

If people follow O'Connor’s advice, they would only need to spend £50 (about $60) a year on dental products. But before you freak out about using the same toothbrush which cleans the mouths of all your family members, here is some clarification. This isn’t a standard toothbrush that you will be sharing with your household so there's no question of your personal hygiene getting compromised. We bet you are relieved to know that!
The dental hygienist has actually advised people to buy one electric toothbrush per household, with each member having their own removable brush heads. She also explains how there's not much difference in quality among toothpaste that have fluoride in them so there is no need to splurge on expensive toothpaste. She stressed the fact that the most important ingredient to look out for in toothpaste is fluoride.

To everyone's relief, the dental hygienist says: "All my patients are always advised to get an electric toothbrush. The difference between manual and electric is the difference between a broom and a hoover. Electric is so much more effective."
With the economic crisis and the rise of living expenses hitting people hard these days, O'Connor emphasized the importance of regular dental check-ups. "Of course, I understand everyone is struggling for money, so a great way to cut down on costs is just to get one toothbrush - there's always one on offer - and then buy multiple heads," she says in the video.
O'Connor also mentions how family members can share the toothbrush's body only as the electric toothbrushes comes with a pack of four interchangeable brush heads with a different colored band at the bottom. She explains the importance of buying the heads though, as sharing the same head between many people is "just not hygienic." The video concludes with her saying that a lot of dentists are doing dental plans that will save you money in the long run, so you have to look out for those.
The comment section of the TikTok video filled up with people who have polarizing opinions about O'Connor's advice. @niicole.e001wrote: "Electric toothbrushes do nothing better than a regular toothbrush but if you want a vibration in your mouth go ahead." @scrappy_goober thought it's common knowledge and commented: "Does it really need to be said that you can share electric toothbrush bases? Like people can't figure this out on their own?"
@mohawk_queen wrote: "I struggle sharing cutlery, it's a no from me!" @janinewright480 agreed with this idea and commented: "I do this, I can't afford to buy 4 electric toothbrushes, so we all have our own heads with a different colored band at the bottom."
So, what do you think about O'Connor's dental advice? You could buy more tickets to your favorite shows with all the money you will save on dental products by using one electric toothbrush.
