‘Doctor Strange’ Background Actress Goes Viral Delivering Performance of a Lifetime | “She Should Get the Oscar”

Being an actor might look like the most glamorous job ever, but it also entails hard work and long hours. Whether you are the story's lead character or a supporting character, you are expected to deliver your best performance to make your name in the film industry. So when this elderly lady got a chance to star in the blockbuster Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, she came fully prepared to grab everyone's attention. Even though Benedict Cumberbatch was the actual star of the movie, this supporting actor stole the show in a scene that went viral online. Millions of people have watched the scene from the Marvel film since then, and it has unleashed a flood of jokes and memes. There were attempts to identify the lady in the background by social media users but we didn't get any fruitful results.

The viral scene is featured at the beginning of the film when Cumberbatch's character Stephen Strange attends the wedding of his ex-partner Christine Palmer, played by Rachel McAdams. As he sits down and starts to converse with another character from the movie, somebody steals the attention of the audience from over Strange's left shoulder. The woman in the scene flashes some exaggerated expressions and tries her very best to not look at the camera. She also pretends to talk to another person beside her before spending some time looking around dramatically.
Lol she must be new, she was like NOOOOO way ima accidently look at that camera on my first day on the job (looks at ceiling like a “normal” person)

She was giving the "performance of a lifetime," according to content creator @JohnnyNeff_ who posted the clip on Twitter back in 2022. Over 9 million people have watched the 26-second clip so far which focuses on the extra, and it has been shared thousands of times on Twitter. In an effort to uncover the identity of the background actress, Twitterati threw in a bunch of guesses.
She sat down with the CEO of cinema and said “I want to make history”… and that’s what that is

She trying so damn hard to not make eye contact with the camera, so she developed her own whole side story where she can see the demons lurking on the walls and ceiling

While appreciating her commitment to the small role, they wondered if it is Cumberbatch's mother—actress Wanda Ventham or not. Despite the extra having a striking resemblance to the actor's mom, it turned out to be false news. Another Twitter user @hickorymoth claimed that the extra was her aunt and tweeted: "This is my aunt !! It was her first acting job and they didn’t tell her a thing about the scene til she got to set. They told all the extras that they aren’t even allowed to look at the cast. She says thank you for all the love!" But netizens banded together to debunk her false claims quickly.

We might not have uncovered the identity of the extra from the movie but there is no harm in speculating, right? We hope the internet crowd can put their sleuthing skills to use and find her name so she can get the deserved appreciation.
