Animal welfare called him "naughty" after determining that he wasn't in any danger and came from a loving home.
In a hilarious moment caught on camera, a pet dog appears to be making a desperate bid for freedom. Angel, a four-year-old Japanese Akita cross, was filmed chewing a massive hole in his owner's front door—on Croftangry Road in Kelty, Fife, Scotland—after ripping off the letterbox.
The mischievous dog tore chunks out of the uPVC door before poking his head adorably through the hole and leaving the locals stunned. "Walking out your dad's to see dog literally eat through a door," the video's caption on TikTok read. Since being uploaded, the clip has been viewed over 7.7 million times and shared by more than 66.5 thousand TikTok users.
The video clip by @marcking1989 starring the mischievous dog—who is ironically named Angel—quickly went viral, sparking debate about why the dog was acting so strangely. Many users speculated that the dog had been kept alone for a very long time and needed company or exercise.
@sarajaynebell0608 commented, "Awww my old boy done this sort of thing for years. I had to take him everywhere with me until I got another dog. Separation anxiety most likely." Another user added, "Bless him, he is desperate to get out. Someone needs to check on the residents." Many people suggested he should be taken out for long walks and maybe given some training.
Angel's owner, Suzanne Connelly, explained that he is really just "a big softy." He chews through things, like toys, but chewing through a door was a first for him. His family was just glad that he did not hurt himself in the process. Connelly and her husband had gone out to drop off their kids and left Angel at home with his two canine siblings—brother Demon and sister Bear—for about half an hour.
Angel started with the letterbox, ripped that out, and got to work on the rest of the door, according to Connelly. Passers-by alerted Connelly's son about the dog's antics. When her son reached the residence, Angel had tired himself out and was sitting on the floor. Connelly guesses: "He just missed his mummy."
Connelly told STVNews, "Animal welfare came out to check over him, but they left after they realized he came from a loving home. The woman actually just called him a naughty dog." She added, "We all just love him so much so we can’t punish him for that. Even if it is going to cost us £300 (about $370) for a new door. We are just laughing about it really."
"He looks scary, being a big dog. Some people were frightened, but if he had got out he would have just licked them to death. We'll probably just take him with us next time," Connelly said of Angel.
