Michael Douglas might have had a stellar career in Hollywood as an actor but that doesn’t imply he is great at delivering jokes in real life, and his own son can confirm that. Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ son, Dylan Douglas recently talked about how his famous father is just like a regular dad and he can be embarrassing at times, per Page Six. “More in terms of what he says, rather than who he is,” 22-year-old Dylan clarified at the Broadway opening of Good Night, Oscar on April 24, 2023.

“Just dad stuff. He’s a bit out of touch, bad jokes for sure!” the son of the Basic Instinct actor joked. The father and son duo was captured by the paparazzi posing for photos in a rare outing at the Broadway premiere. According to PEOPLE, the Ant-Man actor wore a dark navy suit and black shirt while 22-year-old Dylan opted for navy pants, an untucked navy and gray-striped button-down and a gray blazer. Senior Douglas has apparently showed up to the Broadway opening to support the show’s star Sean Hayes, who he knows from a guest appearance on Will & Grace in which he played a detective attracted to the character of Will.

According to CNN, Douglas has been going through a rough time dealing with his health. The actor opened up about his cancer diagnosis back in 2010 which was later revealed to be tongue cancer. For now, the veteran actor has been seriously involved with The Douglas Foundation, a charitable organization established by his father, Kirk Douglas and stepmother Anne Buydens. Kirk died in 2020 at the age of 103 and Buydens passed away in 2021 at the age of 102. The screen legend left the bulk of his $80 million estate to the charity, as per Page Six. “It’s mostly charities that he [Kirk] was involved in for a long time before,” the actor told the outlet at the event, “Children’s playgrounds, cancer research, a number of areas that he worked on his lifetime.”

Michael, 78, and Zeta-Jones, 53  have been together since meeting at the 1998 Deauville Film Festival where Michael was promoting his film, A Perfect Murder and the Welsh-born star was starring in The Mask of Zorro. The Fatal Attraction star had famously told Zeta-Jones that “he wants to father her children.” Turns out, he kept his word and the two married in November 2000. Douglas and Zeta-Jones are also parents to 20-year-old Carys along with Dylan.

Jason Bateman, Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Steven Spielberg, Cynthia Nixon, LaChanze, Steve Martin, Justin Theroux, Martin Short and Matthew Rhys were all present at the venue. Though Douglas' son didn't elaborate on his father's sense of humor we will eagerly look forward to the dapper dad and son duo collaborating on-screen in the near future. Michael Douglas will be next seen in two upcoming mini-series titled Franklin and Reagan & Gorbachev.
