Grimes and tech billionaire Elon Musk have been grabbing eyeballs ever since they made their first public appearance on the red carpets at Met Gala 2018. The couple has had a rocky relationship as they got together and split twice. The 35-year-old musician went on her own way after welcoming a son and a daughter with the business magnate. She became a mother to a son who was named X Æ A-12 and we are still having a hard time pronouncing it. Grimes and Musk also became parents to daughter Exa Dark Sideræl Musk through surrogacy. But this time, the naming fiasco of Musk and Grimes' kids was challenged by the government and the mother of two had no other option but to change the name of her daughter.

Recently, the Shinigami Eyes singer shared on Twitter that her youngest child is now being renamed as 'Y', 'Why' or '?'. The Canadian singer tweeted a picture of herself and her daughter side-by-side, clad in red and captioned the post: "Y *dragon emoji* C." This prompted the netizens to inquire about the child’s name since they couldn’t quite grasp the meaning behind the caption.

A fan replied to the tweet exclaiming "OMG baby sailor mars hi" and Grimes responded to the fan explaining that "she is Y now or Why or just ?." "But the government won’t recognize that," the singer added. The caption made it evident that her daughter's new name symbolizes "curiosity" and "the eternal question and such." However, her revelation managed to garner a bunch of negative remarks from Twiteratti. A couple of them questioned "why couldn't she just settle for a normal name for her daughter" while a few of the Twitter users feared that her "daughter might get bullied in school for having a weird name in future." Some even went as far as to criticize her for "having a child in the first place."

But apart from all the hate, Grimes had actually explained the meaning behind her daughter's unusual name in a Vanity Fair interview last year. According to the outlet, the musician shared that Exa was called Y for short but has now deemed it her new name. Exa refers to the computing term exaFLOPS. Dark means 'the unknown. People fear it but truly, it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe." Grimes also added that Sideræl means "the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time."

Grimes and Musk also had to rework the name of their son from X Æ A-12 to X Æ A-Xii because California law forbids the use of numbers in a legal name, as per Sky News. The former couple had their moment of disagreement over how the name of their son is to be pronounced but on a podcast hosted by Joe Rogan, Musk clarified the pronunciation of the strange name of their son. ''I mean it’s just X, the letter X. And then, the Æ is, like, pronounced Ash, and then, A-12. A-12 is my contribution," Musk explained.

Well, thankfully Musk’s eight other children from his previous relationships were lucky enough to get away with generic names which were accepted on legal documents by the government. We wish the best for his youngest two kids and their future in high school.
