"After Rihanna’s brilliant halftime performance, I'm hoping my son can find it in his heart to forgive a Dad for taking his moment," the actor said.
Rihanna put up a scintillating performance at the Super Bowl halftime show in Glendale, Arizona, for the first time in years. The show was yet another reminder of what an enigma Rihanna is. Ethan Hawke knew what a lot of people already knew having witnessed it firsthand during a courtside chat with the iconic singer. After Rihanna's stellar performance, Ethan Hawke paid tribute to the singer in a rather funny way by recalling the time he switched seats with his son to get with the singer, in 2015. Who can really fault him for shooting his shot? Ethan Hawke posted the hilarious photographs that saw him switch seats with his then-young son Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke to sit beside Rihanna.
On Monday, the Academy Award winner shared hilarious throwback photos of him and his son with the Grammy-winning singer from the 2015 NBA All-Star Game at Madison Square Garden on Instagram. Hawke's then-13-year-old son is seated between Rihanna and his father in the first photo. In the second image, Hawke has switched seats with his son, and Levon is frowning. The third image shows Hawke and Rihanna discussing something while Levon observes. "After Rihanna’s brilliant halftime performance, I'm hoping my son can find it in his heart to forgive a Dad for taking his moment," the actor wrote in the caption.
Gwyneth Paltrow, who co-starred in 1998's Great Expectations with Hawke, responded to the post by mocking Hawke's sprawling slouch as he sits next to the pop star. "Could you sit up straight, for god’s sake? You’re sitting next to Rihanna!" Paltrow commented. Andy Cohen also commented, calling the Instagram post the "BEST PIC EVER." Fans also had much to add. "Ethan to his son: Switch seats immediately or prepare for war," commented user jedi_sarath. "You miss 100% of the shot you don't take," added rvaslays.
Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke is Ethan's second child with Thurman. The pair welcomed him on Jan. 15, 2002. Levon is immersed in the fashion world, often accompanying his mom to fashion events like Dior couture shows. He's also an actor, appearing in the Apple TV+ drama anthology The Crowded Room alongside actors like Tom Holland and Emmy Rossum, according to People. When Levon isn't acting or attending fashion shows, he's often sitting courtside at sporting events with his dad. The father-son duo sure seem to spend quality time together and share a great bond. No wonder Ethan could ask for his son's seat without batting an eyelid and Levon agreed!
