Girl Asks Police to Verify ‘if Santa Is Real’ by Running DNA Test on Half-Eaten Christmas Cookie

As kids, we've all had certain questions regarding the whereabouts of Santa and his gift-giving mission. But this kid from Cumberland went a step ahead to determine once and for all whether Santa is real or not. To her surprise, the Cumberland Police Department came up with a special investigation on the matter and they posted about it on their Facebook page on January 20, 2023.

It was like a dream come true moment for the young girl as the investigation post with the title, "SPECIAL INVESTIGATION INTO CONFIRMATION OF SANTA CLAUS – DNA REQUEST BY LOCAL YOUNG INVESTIGATOR" was released.

A local police department in Rhode Island is winning hearts on the internet and we couldn’t agree more as they obliged to take into consideration a request sent by a curious child. The unusual query was to run a DNA test on evidence to prove the existence of Santa Claus.

Authorities in Cumberland, north of Providence, received a handwritten letter from a young girl following the holiday season. In a press release by the police department, the authorities stated how they would like to go ahead with a full-fledged investigation with the pieces of evidence shared by the young detective.

A partially eaten cookie and carrot remains were sent to the police station to run a DNA test to ascertain if they were really nibbled by Santa Claus and his nine reindeer. The food remains were sent to the state's Department of Health-Forensic Sciences Unit for analysis, according to the police. "This young lady obviously has a keen sense for truth and the investigative process and did a tremendous job packaging her evidence for submission," Cumberland's police chief, Matthew J. Benson, said in the release. "We will do our very best to provide answers for her," he added, commending the job by the young girl.

According to the release shared on the Facebook page of the department, the young girl approached the police with a handwritten letter which was also featured in the post. It reads: "Dear Cumberland Police Department I took a sample of a cookie and carrots that I left for Santa and the Reindeer on Christmas eve and was wondering if you could take a sample of the DNA and see if the Santa is real?" The letter won the hearts of many users, one of whom commented saying: "This is terrific! I think we will all be following this case! Inquiring minds want to know!" Another wrote: "Omg. I love this. Now Let us know when you find out !!!"

The instance came about as a heartwarming gesture by the police department and is getting all the love it deserves. While the Cumberland Police Department awaits results to keep the people informed about further findings. The post by the department concludes: "The department has been in contact with this future-CPD Detective and provided her with some already uncovered evidence in support of Santa Claus’ presence in her neighborhood the night of December 24th, 2022."
