Gifting your girlfriend can be a tedious task, you always want to make sure you don't end up upsetting her by getting her something wrong. This guy thought he got it all right when he gifted his girlfriend a unique and fun gift - a DNA test. What he didn't know was that he was going to open a can of worms set aside for 30 years. 

Redditor rglurker writes, "TIFU by getting my gf a DNA test for Christmas. Her mom and dad thought it was a great gift. She finally got around to using it and she decides to complete the process and send it in a couple of months ago. When she finally got the results she was looking through the health section first. Everything looked good. Then she gets to the family section. Grandma check grandpa check mom check half-sister che.... wait what?! She looks up the half the sister and she does not recognize her but recognizes a few people in her circle."

"She looks up her father and gets his name. (She's from a real small town) confused she calls up her mom and puts her on speaker in our room. " mom do I have a half-sister ?" Her mom replied "if course not, why would you have a half-sister honey lol." Before her mom stopped chuckling she replied "do you know a John Smith ?" The phone became dead silent. In an extremely serious tone her mom responds "what about him." My gf then explains that she's on 23 and me and for some reason, it's saying she has a half-sister and John is her father. There was what felt like 5 minutes of complete silence."

"Her mom finally broke the silence and in an icy tone said "have you said anything to your father ?" My gf responded "no, I called you first. I figured you might know." Another few moments of eerie silence pass. Her mom broke the silence with a sigh. "Don't tell your father anything and don't let your bf know, I don't want him to say anything or know" she then proceeded to explain what apparently happened (while still on speaker cause me and my gf tight lol) ."

"So apparently her mom and dad had "taken a break" for a weekend and she hooked up with her x bf (john). Then got back with my gfs dad a couple days later. When she found out she was pregnant and they dated a possible time frame for conception. She knew it was probably not her husband's. She's kept this secret for 30 years. She told my gf to keep this secret. My gf doesn't know what to do now and I'm just sitting here shaking my head at the audacity of her mom," he wrote. Don't think he should be worried about anything, it's the mom who's got owning up to do.
