Men often get an earful or two from their partners for being forgetful or not being "attentive" enough. But forgetting to check whether your wife is still in the car hits a whole new level of absent-mindedness. We’ve all had those forgetful phases as a kid when we would leave our lunchbox or stationery items at school and even as adults when the umbrella is inevitably left behind in the cab while commuting to the office. But could one reach such a stage of distraction where they forget their own WIFE?

However hilarious and unreal as that may sound, this incredulous incident really happened in Thailand on December 25, 2022. When Boonton Chaimoon asked his wife, Amnuay Chaimoon, to stay put as he made a pitstop to take a leak, Amnuay also stepped down from the car to relieve herself. Amnuay was completely unaware that this would be a very, very big mistake.

Turns out, when the husband returned from his bathroom break, he just drove away without checking whether his partner was still in the car! Leaving his wife alone on the side of the road in the dark, completely oblivious to the fact that she'd stepped down at all, Boontoon simply drove on for over a hundred miles.

Stranded alone and with no other form of transport available, Amnuay decided to walk until she found a safe place to discuss the whereabouts of her husband who was missing. The Kabin Buri Police Station shared that the woman came to them and reported the abandonment by her husband on the side of Suwinthawong Road.

The police rang the 49-year-old woman’s phone—which she left back in the car—but got no response. The cops then attempted to contact her relatives instead. Amnuay feared that if she couldn’t get a hold of her husband or family, she would have to resort to exchanging her gold necklace to return home safely.

“At that time, I felt lost and scared, not thinking that my husband would forget himself by the side of the road alone. Then decided to walk on foot heading to Kabin Buri District,” said Amnuay as she recalled the terrifying ordeal.

The woman walked almost 20 km (about 12.4 miles) on her seemingly endless trek. It was only after some time that she got to know that her husband was safe and driving all night without the faintest realization that he'd left her behind. We can only imagine the sight when it finally hit him and the 55-year-old husband turned the vehicle around to rush back in search of his beloved.

It wasn’t until 8 a.m. that authorities finally managed to get hold of her absent-minded husband, who by that time had driven almost 159.6 km (100 miles) away from the location of their bathroom break. The mortified Thai driver had believed his wife was asleep in the backseat and apologized profusely to her. The couple has been together for 27 years according to the New York Post and also have a 26-year-old son together. We can only imagine what transpired after the weary wife headed back with him, getting into the car without a word.
