Johnny Depp Once Failed to Understand Al Pacino’s Classic Joke | “Skeleton Goes into a Bar...”

Johnny Depp has been pals with veteran actor Al Pacino ever since they starred together in the 1997 crime drama, Donnie Brasco. And old pals usually have plenty of stories to share and so did Depp when he appeared on a 2013 episode of Late Show with David Letterman. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor once had to listen to a classic joke narrated by Pacino and he failed to understand the punchline. The 83-year-old actor kept repeating the joke and yet Depp was unable to grasp it's meaning. Gosh!
Depp admitted on the talk show that he eventually figured the joke out and then proceeded to convey the narrative to Letterman by doing a spot-on impression of the Scarface actor. "He likes to tell jokes and he liked to tell me this one specific joke over and over. And, uh, I really didn't understand it," he told the host. "A skeleton goes into a bar and orders a beer and a mop," he delivered the one-liner gag and it had the studio audience cackling every time Depp paused to complete the sentence.

It is not a complicated joke and we wonder how Depp did not understand it initially but we are glad he finally figured it out. Some people on social media platforms saw the footage from Depp's talk show interview getting circulated and attempted to explain why a skeleton might need a mop after drinking a beer whereas others said the gag "makes perfect sense." Even though neither Depp nor Pacino were the ones to deliver this joke on the big screen, it eventually appeared in one of Depp's films.
Sir Paul McCartney, the former member of the Beatles made a cameo appearance in the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales film as Uncle Jack and told Depp's character the skeleton ordering beer and mop joke. McCartney's pirate character asked Depp's iconic Jack Sparrow if he had ever heard the joke before while he was imprisoned and Sparrow replied that he had heard it many times from him but Uncle Jack repeated the joke and Sparrow said that it was "as funny as ever."
Pacino and Depp are possibly living in the best phase of their lives. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp is starring as King Louis XV in his new historical drama, Jeanne Du Barry and it has done the most box office business of any of the Canne opening-night films since The Great Gatsby in 2013. Pacino is all set to become a father for the fourth time since his current girlfriend, Noor Alfallah is pregnant with the couple's child, reports TMZ. We can hope for the two screen legends to get together at some point in the near future and discuss this hilarious incident related to a hard-to-decode joke.
