Journalist Gets Roasted Online After Making Sexist Comments Targeting Women

He said he finds it “wonderful” when women wear revealing clothes but he thinks that it undermines their claims for equality.

Freedom of speech is fundamental to any democracy in the world. Most of the time we are grateful for this feature in our constitution, but like any other right, this also has a few cons. The freedom to speak our minds stirs up social media fiascos sometimes. People don't think twice before saying something sexist on the internet because they are allowed to speak their minds. Andrew Duncan’s ridiculously wrong tweet from 2019 has begun making the rounds on the r/MurderedByWords subreddit once more. A journalist, according to his Twitter bio, Duncan finds it “wonderful” when women wear clothes that let him see parts of their legs, shoulders, and cleavage, but he thinks that it undermines their claims for equality.

People were quick to call him out for his outrageous remarks on both Twitter and Reddit in 2019, and they are condemning him again in 2023. The response of Dr. Eric Sprankle, a Professor of Clinical Psychology was shared in the Reddit thread and he wrote: “‘How can women get equal rights if I get an erection from staring at their shoulders?’ – Andrew"

Dr. Dena Grayson and Amanda Jette Knox, the author of Love Lives Here, called out Duncan's hypocrisy with a witty response. "Meanwhile, men strut around topless, showing their nipples, and yet no one seems to care," wrote Grayson.

Twitter user Erynn Brook was keen to reassure him that he’s allowed to get his bosom out too because equality is for everyone, in case he is feeling jealous of women showing flesh.

Folks over on Reddit had a hilarious lot to say about Andrew’s ridiculous comment. Referencing the title of the Reddit post, one person replied, “‘Why aren’t people afraid of showing their stupidity in public?’ Because they don’t know they’re stupid. That’s part of being stupid.” “If women can show off their ankles in public, then Andrew can show off his stupidity,” u/SailingSpark said. “The real difference is: women know their parts look good. Idiots like Andrew don’t realize their stupidity is not a good look.”

“They can have equal rights when they look like men. No, wait, that doesn’t work either,” mused u/mikende51. As u/cruxclaire pointed out, “We even tried those giant shoulder pads on blazers in the 80s so we could have powerful Man Shoulders™ in the office. Didn’t work.” Another Reddit user, vusa121 joked, “I saw a man with a nice ass today. Why is that man being allowed to vote?” to which u/53R105LY_replied, “If he wanted to vote, he’d keep that dump truck covered up! Maybe tie a hoodie around his waist or something!” Maybe Duncan can tie a hoodie around his mouth when he feels like making preposterous statements like this next.
