American model and actress Karen McDougal is apparently one of the women who received hush money from former president Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016. According to HuffPost, McDougal is finally speaking out after the indictment of Trump and she is doing it in a rather sly manner on social media. On April 4, 2023, Trump was indicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records by Alvin Bragg who is the New York Attorney General. Just a day after this incident, McDougal took to her social media page to make a post in which she shared four pictures of herself, enjoying out in nature. “I’ve been out and about enjoying God's country. I hope I didn’t miss anything,” she posted.

McDougal has been a Playmate of the Year in the late 1990s for Playboy magazine and according to her words, she had an affair with Trump in 2006-2007. Even though Trump has denied having a physical relationship with the former Playmate, she was still paid $150,000 by American Media Inc (AMI), the corporate parent of the National Enquirer, for the rights to her story. This was done to ensure her story from going public before the 2016 presidential election.

As per the prosecutors, Trump was definitely not looking forward to Mcdougal’s story becoming public and it would have affected his candidacy during the elections. Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen and his longtime friend AMI former chief executive David Pecker came to an agreement that Trump would reimburse AMI for the payment.

After having a conversation with a company lawyer, Pecker decided not to seek repayment. But the U.S. Federal Election Commission ruled in 2021 that the payment to McDougal summed up to an illegal campaign contribution and fined its successor company $187,500, per the outlet.

However, McDougal's tweet did attract some criticism from the netizens as she got called out for "trying to be the next Monica Lewinsky." The former Playmate got shamed in the comment section of her Twitter post thoroughly for having an affair with a married man in the first place. But some even cheered her for spending quality time away from all the political ruckus. @jacob4kids tweeted in support of McDougal and wrote: "I love the fact you were enjoying your vacation yesterday with such freedom while Trump was arrested and in custody. Karma is best served with 34 felony counts." Rest assured, Trump's reign might not have lasted long on American soil but the seeds of controversy he sowed earlier are surely going to trouble him for some time.
