Katy Perry Recalls Fake Tan Spray Fiasco While Shooting ‘California Gurls’ Music Video | “I Kept Getting Oranger”

Katy Perry has a piece of sound beauty advice and we can count on her because she has experienced it firsthand. Talk about learning from a star's mistake! The 38-year-old singer revealed a tanning mistake she made while filming her California Gurls music video in 2010. It cost her a whole lot of money to fix that, which she shared in a Vogue interview, Life in Looks on Friday, March 24, 2023.

The Grammy award nominee shared she had to spend "so much extra money on color-grading." Perry recounted, "Funny story behind this is that I look super tan here, right? Rarely do I get spray tans, and typically you're supposed to get them the night before. Well, I just didn't have time. So, I got them on the day of my music video."
While we lack knowledge about fake tan sprays and how exactly they work, the music star enlightened us about the effect of the tan spray. She shared, "When you get a tan the morning of your music video, your color changes gradually throughout the day. So, I just kept on getting oranger and oranger and orange." The Electric singer added, "We had to spend so much extra money on color-grading this music video because in one part of the video, I'm this color orange and then I'm this color orange in the next part of the music video."

The Santa Barbara-born star offered helpful advice to her fans and said, "Kids, just a little tip: fake tans the night before." Point noted. The music video California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) released in 2010 as the lead single from her third studio album, Teenage Dream has 681 million views.
Her fans went gaga over her Vogue video and posted heartfelt comments. A YouTube user, @Sherryl, wrote, "People should appreciate her more because her vibe is so happy and positive and I am here for it!" Another comment by the singer's supposed fan club on YouTube @Katycat Forever read, "She's the goddess of colors, fashion sense, stage presentation, that's why she's been titled as Queen of Camp by Vogue, we are proud of her."
In the video, she dons colorful confections in what seems like a candy land with gummy bears and Snoop Dogg. Discussing the theme and idea behind her then-iconic song, the American Idol judge said it was a joint venture of her and costume designer Johnny Wujek and they "came up with this concept together." Wujek, 43, told PEOPLE the music video marked "the beginning" of his collaborative journey with Perry after their first meeting more than 15 years ago. Talking about Perry's creativity and skills, Wujek said, "It's all over the place, and I just love the creativity and being able to push it with her. She's one of a kind."
Currently, Perry is busy bringing up her daughter Daisy Dove with Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom and she declared that she is far from retirement. She said, "Trust, sweetheart, she's got a couple of aces still up her sleeve."
