Lady Gaga Becomes a Spokesperson for Migraine Medicine and Gets Twitterati Meme-Ing | “The Recession Touches All”

It’s not new for celebrities to promote various brands and partner with several social causes to raise awareness. But it looks like Lady Gaga’s fans did not expect the songstress to become the spokesperson for a prescription drug all of a sudden. According to Pfizer, the Bad Romance singer joined hands with the pharmaceutical company to raise awareness about an “often-misunderstood disease.”
The pharma company website states that Gaga was diagnosed with migraine at the age of 14 and it has had a “profound impact on her life.” “Lady Gaga’s story is a powerful reminder of how significantly migraine affects the lives of so many people,” Angela Lukin, the Global Primary Care and U.S. President of Pfizer said in a statement. “We believe that this collaboration will help raise awareness of this often ‘silent’ disease and inspire those living with migraine to have conversations with their healthcare providers about the best way to manage their condition.”

To announce her partnership with Pfizer, Gaga posted a paid ad campaign on Instagram for the migraine drug called Nurtec which is made by the pharma giant. In the caption of the post, she penned down her struggles with migraines which did not convince her fans and netizens. The words in the caption sounded very much like a pre-planned ad rather than giving a hint about it being an authentic story.

“Ever since childhood, I’ve dealt with migraine pain. When I tried Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) 75 mg for the first time, I’ll never forget wishing I had found it sooner,” the ad said. “That’s why I’m proud to partner with Nurtec ODT. We’re in this together,” the caption read. It is also intended for the U.S. audience only. Netizens couldn’t help but take a dig at Gaga for promoting migraine medication in a not-so-authentic fashion.

One person on Twitter joked how “the recession touches all” since Gaga has to do paid partnerships with pharma companies as well. Gaga also replaced Khloé as the Nurtec spokesperson possibly because she has a bigger fanbase and a more engaging personality. Some people joked about how "Gaga might be having real migraines after looking at all these memes about her."

The Nurtec commercial included footage from a Lady Gaga concert, which many fans believe is from last fall's Chromatica Ball Tour. Several fans thought Gaga was introducing The Chromatica Ball live film until they spotted the Nurtec logo on the footage. The 37-year-old singer and actress' partnership with Pfizer came only a few months after the company recalled millions of Nurtec ODT prescription drugs due to packaging that was not child resistant. Well, whether you suffer from migraines or not, these migraine memes on social media will surely cure your headache for a while.
