James Gandolfini was, inarguably, one of the finest actors of all time. Who’d argue with that? Anyone who disagrees is an enormous fuckin’ loser. He was extraordinarily talented and dedicated to his craft in equal measure. This behind-the-scenes clip from the making of The Soprano‘s fifth season proves just how committed he was, and to a comical degree at that.
James was working such long hours, and in such cold weather, that he’d try to warm up between takes inside his characters’ iconic white Cadillac Escalade. At one point, he even fell asleep with his foot on the gas pedal.
Bow down to the king and watch the clip below!
This is just beautiful.
Doesn’t it make you want to watch The Sopranos all over again knowing how well everyone got along off-screen? What a nice time it must’ve been.
The scene they were shooting between Tony Soprano and Tony’s cousin, Tony Blundetto (portrayed by Steve Buscemi) was set in the summer. However, at the time of filming, it was winter in New Jersey. These poor, dedicated masters of their craft were freezing their ass off while pretending it was hot enough outside for a BBQ.
God damn it. Why did James Gandolfini have to leave us so soon? Why was he taken from us instead of some shitty ass SNL cast member? We’d trade the entire cast of SNL for James. This would be the easiest decision in the world.
Well, life is deeply unfair, but then it will surprise you with amazing human beings like Mr. James Gandolfini. We miss you deeply. Rest in peace, king.
