Man 'Chillaxing' on Patio Gets The Shock of His Life as He Locks Eyes With Black Bear | “Eyeballs Certainly Got a Stretch”

No one likes their me-time interrupted, especially after a long day at work. But David Oppenheimer of North Carolina had a unique guest visiting him on his patio while he was chilling—a black bear. Oppenheimer was shocked to see the furry animal just a few feet away.
After a hectic workday as a digital creator, Oppenheimer was "chillaxing" on his tranquil patio when the black bear came roaming as if he lived there too. The man shared the video on his Facebook account with a caption, "Chillaxing at the end of the day, didn't expect to make eye contact so close. My eyeballs certainly got a stretch." The video went viral and the North Carolina man could be seen lounging casually and texting on his phone. The bear approached when he was engrossed in his phone. As the footage continued, the homeowner sensed the mammal's presence and immediately stared down the bear in fear. The furry giant too locked eyes with the homeowner. The bear caught the man completely off-guard as his expression got tense and he death-gripped the pillow while appearing horrified. The bear seemed equally alarmed by the human's presence.
However, the man also mentioned that it was not the first time the furry animal landed in his home. He wrote in the caption, "Good thing we're already acquainted." The bear shared close quarters with the man before. He recalled the bear often rummaged through his trash and had stolen food from his supposedly "bear-proof" bird feeder, reported by New York Post. The regular visitor is indeed nosy. Oppenheimer said the motion detector alarm went off but he didn't spot the animal entering. Although the man is familiar with the bear, he admitted this recent encounter frightened him out of his wits. He said, "[But] the bears here are very peaceful. This one just caught me off- guard."
He recalled the incident, saying, "About a minute later, the bear came along and was practically in front of me." The man was still scared. It dawned on him after a while that he was hardly at a hand's distance from the furry animal. Social media users were shocked too but as always, some users did not disappoint with their on-point humor. A Twitter user, @Entity_of_life, wrote, "The bear was like 'Ohshit! There's a human. I gotta go!' He has encountered people before, that's why he knew to get out of there. Smart bear."
Another user, @yarritsblake, commented, "He [the bear] was just trying to reach him about his car's extended warranty." A Facebook user, @Tien Tran, quipped, "Such a funny video. Glad you and the pillow are ok." A hilarious comment by @Kerry K Sullivan read, "So Dave, were you going to throw that pillow? Haha, I would have totally lost it." Another Facebook user, @Missy Carrero, joked, "She wasn't in the mood for a pillow fight, Dave."
The National Park Service-recommended method of alerting the animal includes shouting "Hey bear" at the critter, moving "slowly and sideways" instead of running and staying calm and holding your ground.
