In a Weird Bakery Break-In, Courteous Thief Cleaned His Own Mess, Took Selfies and Left With 6 Cup Cakes

We hear tons of news about robbery and theft on a daily basis but we hardly come across an amusing incident like this. According to Business Insider, the owner of a bakery in Vancouver, Canada, discovered it had been broken into on Friday (May 26, 2023) morning. But the security video footage of the incident is definitely going to give you more laughter than terror. This early-morning theft can be seen in a storytime video uploaded on TikTok by Emma Irvine (@itsemmaokayy), the owner of Sweet Something in Vancouver.
In the viral video, we can see the suspect breaking the glass door of the store but before continuing on his heist of pastries and sugary treats, he hilariously makes an attempt to clean up the mess he created. According to Irvine's narration, the thief lingered in the shop for more than an hour before leaving with half a dozen of chocolate cupcakes. Over a million people have watched the video since it was posted on TikTok.

"Initially, my heart sank," Irvine told the outlet. "It's hard as a small business — especially coming out of COVID — to survive right now and one more expense doesn't make it easier. My mindset quickly changed. It was hilarious – I was in stitches watching (the footage)," Irvine said. Usually, a break-in like this will leave any business owner distraught but the side-splitting security footage gave Irvine a new perspective on the incident and she said that ultimately she "can't be too mad at this guy."
The perpetrator even left a couple of selfies with orange spectacles on the store's iPhone. They are now an inspiration for Sweet Something's cookies and cupcakes. Something Sweet filed a police complaint but Irvine said the authorities were equally amused to see the thief clean up after his break-in. The fellow rested for a bit, used the toilet, and even drank some water but his attempt to collect money from the cash drawers failed. He eventually left with only six chocolate champagne cupcakes, and unwittingly gave the small business a good boost. Irvine stated that the proceeds from the suspect-themed eyeglasses pastries will go towards Sweet Something's door repair.
Well at least he was courteous enough to clean up after himself! 😉😂😂😂

Inmates run the asylum.
Other TikTok users dropped in to share their equally hilarious reactions as well. @kier.sten_ wrote: "Okay but did he clock in and clock out? The man worked a whole shift and then took his employee's meal." @andreamgc1 commented: "I love how he just sits there like he’s waiting for a server to show up. Like dang, what’s taking so long? I want my cupcakes." @_luboys_mamaaa chimed in and wrote: "I’m sorry & it’s not a laughing matter but how good are your cupcakes!? The man was on a mission."

"I thought no one was going to see it (other than) my friends," Irvine said about the viral CCTV footage. "I didn't think that we'd be getting the traction that we've gotten. The media on the business is far more than I could've ever dreamed. Small businesses can't afford to not carry on after something like this, so we're making the best out of it." After all, how can you hate anything that works in the favor of your small business? The weird thief surely deserves a bit of appreciation for his contribution to making a viral video.
