Mila Kunis Roasts Husband Ashton Kutcher for His "Awkward" Red Carpet Chemistry With Reese Witherspoon

Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon dominated the rom-com genre in the early 2000s Hollywood and fans are delighted to see them pairing up once again this year for a brand-new Netflix romantic comedy titled Your Place or Mine. While many are celebrating the duo’s return to the rom-com genre, some are scrutinizing their lack of chemistry on the red carpet while promoting their new film.

Several awkward shots of the stars have gone viral on social media. Kutcher’s real-life spouse, actress Mila Kunis, herself had a few things to say about her husband's seemingly uncomfortable energy around his co-star Witherspoon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Reese addressed the internet buzz surrounding her apparent lack of chemistry with Kutcher on the red carpet and how Kunis sent her a message calling them out on it. Kutcher and Kunis have known each other since they starred together in The 70s Show and eventually got married in 2015. The couple has two children together.

“She even emailed us last night. She goes, ‘You guys look so awkward on the red carpet together,’” Witherspoon told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager during an appearance on Today.

Witherspoon and Kunis have been good friends for years. “It’s just fun because when you know a girlfriend so much, it was just fun to get to know her significant other because I’ve loved her for so long," Witherspoon said of their bond.

Speaking of working with her long-time onscreen co-star once again, Witherspoon said: "Ashton is so professional. He’s the funniest guy. I mean, such a goofball. We had so much fun."

Kutcher also broke the silence about his apparent lack of chemistry with Witherspoon while talking on the Chicks in the Office podcast. Kutcher said he was reluctant about appearing too chummy with Witherspoon because he didn’t want to start any affair rumors, reports Elle. 

“My wife called me,” he said. “She texted Reese and me together and she’s like, ‘Guys, you gotta act like you like each other.’ And I’m like, ‘What is going on?’”

"Reese and I are really good friends. We’re really close! I don’t have to defend that," Kutcher added.

Kutcher has kept a distance from the rom-com genre since 2011 when he last starred alongside Natalie Portman in No Strings Attached. “Honestly, I think I had more fun shooting this movie than I ever had. It was genuinely a choice. I didn’t need to do it. I didn’t have to do it. It wasn’t like a career-building block. It was like, ‘I want to do this,’” Kutcher told Variety at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles.

“I got to be in scenes across from a genuine movie star. She’s such a movie star. It was so wonderful and fun and funny and light. There was never a dark day. There was never a day that everything went wrong. I got spoiled,” he said about Witherspoon.

Kutcher and Witherspoon will be starring as Peter and Debbie in Your Place or Mine. Peter and Debbie have been lifelong best friends who live on opposite coasts but one day decides to swap their houses and lives for a week. This switch in their lives forces the duo to confront the possibility of having some kind of romantic feelings for one another. The Devil Wears Prada’s writer Aline Brosh McKenna makes her directorial debut with this film and it is set to release on Netflix on February 10.
