Newlyweds Miss Their Own Wedding Reception After Getting Trapped in Hotel Lift for 2 Hours

Rescue personnel was immediately summoned to the area but they realized that the situation was not a regular kind of rescue call.

A newly married couple missing their wedding reception because they got stuck in a hotel lift for two hours sounds like something straight out of a sitcom. However, that's exactly what happened to Victoria and Panav Jha.

The young couple was heading up to their reception on the 16th floor of the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina, when the elevator they were riding in came to a halt in between floors. Victoria's sister and three other wedding guests were also with them in the elevator, reported Mirror. Rescue personnel was immediately summoned to the area but they realized that the situation is not a regular kind of rescue call.

"We got up maybe five feet, then boom we got stuck," Panav told CNN about the unfortunate incident. "I could see a concrete wall in front of me and I could see a concrete wall behind me," he added about the slightly-ajar elevator doors. "I was like, 'That's not normal.'"

Ultimately, Charlotte Fire came to save the day, helping the couple tie a different kind of knot.

"They harnessed me up, got me in full gear, and pulled me up four floors with a fireman," Victoria shared. According to New York Post, Panav recalls feeling like a spy at the moment: "I would say, James Bond. Maybe 'Mission Impossible.'"

Thankfully, all six were eventually pulled to safety by the Charlotte Fire Department, who hoisted them up through the top of the elevator. Sadly, however, the 2-hour rescue meant that the whole group missed out on enjoying the wedding party.

Though it's a wedding night they’ll never forget, both the bride and the groom were devastated that they were not able to finish celebrating the night with their guests. Nor could they say goodbye to those traveling from out of town.

"We were not able to celebrate or do the last kisses or goodbyes. And that's what put the damper on everything. That's how the wedding night had to end," said Victoria. The Charlotte firefighters posed with the unfortunate wedding party after the rescue and posted the image on their Twitter and Facebook pages.

"6 people were trapped in a hotel elevator between the first and second floor. All 6 who Charlotte firefighters pulled to safety, were part of the Jha wedding party," the Twitter post read. "Mr. and Mrs. Jha, we hope today is the start of a long and happy life."

"This is a beautiful photo, the awesome story too," Twitter user @The_Bernanke wrote, while another Charlotte Fire Department follower, @Reporterroblang, commented: "Mr. and Mrs. Jha now have a wonderful story to tell their children and grandchildren. Congratulations to the Happy Couple."

This became one of the most memorable nights for the happy couple. Yes, they were stuck but at least they were stuck together, right?
