Mormon Parents Fall For Son’s Prank and Hang Obi-Wan Kenobi's Picture on Wall

Star Wars has a massive and devoted fanbase around the world and one may even claim that it has become a cult among sci-fi lovers. So this guy from Utah decided to give an interesting present to his religious parents for Christmas in 2018. His gift had the internet appreciating his wits. Instead of giving an actual portrait of Jesus to his parents, Ryan Buchanan wrapped up a framed portrait of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi as a Christmas gift. But it seems that his parents have clearly kept themselves away from the huge pop culture phenomenon, Star Wars. Maybe that's why they failed to recognize Kenobi and believed that they had received a portrait of Jesus Christ from their son.
In a YouTube video posted by Antelope Isle, we can witness the hilarious moment unfolding along with Buchanan's gift to his parents, we can see them removing the polka-dot packaging to reveal a highly artistic representation of the person they believe to be Jesus Christ. Buchanan has already set up his camera to record their reaction. In the video, we see his parents unwrap the photo, turn it towards him and compliment him on how nicely it has been done and how they haven't seen anything like it before.
But it's not Jesus after all. It's just Obi-Wan Kenobi in his traditional Jedi outfit. But Buchanan's parents were blissfully unaware of it and his mother ended up hanging the portrait on the wall. Buchanan later made a post on Reddit and wrote about the incident: "I’ve made a huge mistake. Mom loves her Jesus Christmas present and I’m not sure how to get out of this thing alive when she figures out." The elderly couple are active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, more commonly known as Mormons, so Buchanan thought it would be appropriate to give them this Christmas-themed present, per Bored Panda.
Buchanan apparently got the idea to do this from another Reddit user who had joked that Obi-Wan Kenobi looks "oddly reminiscent of Jesus Christ." The prankster flashed a mischievous smile in the video while hugging his mother after gifting her the fake Jesus. We are not certain what happened to him when his parents figured out his prank but this is certainly not the first time when people mistook McGregor's Kenobi as Christ.
Even The Mormon Church consciously featured McGregor on the cover of one of their Sunday programs. Perhaps they were tempted to use McGregor's portrait. Sure, we cannot deny that Kenobi looks awfully similar to how Jesus Christ is ideally depicted in pictures and statues, but we hope people get familiar with the Star Wars franchise to avoid confusing the real Jesus Christ with fake ones.
