The cast of NBC's show came together to celebrate girl power on "Galentine's Day." The awesome four have been celebrating the day since 2018.
Who wants a Valentine when you already have a Galentine? The original Galentine gals reunited to celebrate the day. Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza reunited to recreate the hilarious tradition from the show and fans are losing it. Amy Poehler's character Leslie Knope comes up with the tradition to celebrate women and it certainly struck a chord with the audience.
The official cast of NBC's Parks and Recreation came together to celebrate girl power on Valentine's Day, better known as "Galentine's Day"—as the holiday was introduced in the show's second season. Rashida Jones shared a selfie on her Instagram with other gals and captioned it, "Happy Galentine's Day!" Kerry Washington commented, "YASS!" while Samantha Ronson responded to the selfie, "Love this." The wholesome foursome has been following the tradition since 2018. Aubrey posted a crew photo in 2018 and captioned it, "Happy Galentine's day. These women keep me alive." The group met again in 2020, treating fans with another snap.
In the show's second season, we see Leslie Knope (Poehler) invite her girlfriends—including Ann (Jones) and April (Plaza)—to a brunch filled with storytelling and celebration of strong female friendships. A day before Valentine's, February 13, they commemorated Galentine's day. "Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it breakfast-style," Leslie says, per NBC. "The ladies celebrating each other. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst." They give out hand-knit presents and essays she wrote about what makes each woman special and unique.
The show Parks and Recreation aired for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. Jones and Plaza, alongside Poehler, starred in the show as Ann Perkins and April Ludgate. Kathryn guest appeared many times on Parks and Rec as Jennifer Barkley, the campaign manager for Leslie's political nemesis Bobby Newport, played by Paul Rudd. The reunion is just one moment. The show celebrated the holiday in season four apart from its inaugural Galentine's episode in season two. Season four shows Leslie attempting to find Ann's partner, and in season six, Leslie tries to mourn Ann's decision to move away from Pawnee.
The political satire ended in 2015, but the women star cast continued their Galentine's tradition. Fans have been religiously following the tradition and commented on Instagram. An Instagram user, @kittyfermx, wrote, "Jennifer Barkley would hate to be included in Galentine’s Day!" Another user, @awkwardholland, shared the desire to see the promising gals in a show again, "Would love to see all 4 of you in a show again, even if it’s just y’all reading the phone book for seven one-hour episodes." In 2018, Poehler also publicized a call asking for photos of Galentine’s Day celebrations on Tuesday through her Amy Poehler Smart Girls Twitter account. The female empowerment organization shared the photos in their Instagram stories.
Some curious fans also asked to reveal the plot. A user, @rachelmlinarchik, asked, "Can the Galentines tell us if Aubrey is going to play Evalyn Hugo and that is why her hair is blond? TELL US."
