Pedro Pascal gained worldwide fame after his stint on HBO's blockbuster series, Game of Thrones. His character, Oberyn Martell had a brief appearance on the show but it left a lasting impact on the audience. Every time Pascal was spotted by a fan, he received an unusual selfie request—he was asked to recreate the death scene of his character from Game of Thrones. The actor had no problem getting close and personal with his fans until things backfired. Taking selfies with his fans led to Pascal getting an eye infection.

The 48-year-old actor recently appeared on The Hollywood Reporter's Drama Actors Roundtable on May 24, 2023, where he chatted up with other notable actors like Kieran Culkin, Jeff Bridges, Michael Imperioli, Evan Peters and Damson Idris. Pascal opened up about his experience with fans and how taking crazy pictures with them led to an eye infection. “I remember earlier on because of Game of Thrones and the way my character died...people were super into taking selfies with their thumbs in my eyes,” he recalled. In the show, Pascal's character meets his brutal demise after getting his eyes gouged and his skull crushed during a duel with Gregor Clegane.

“Wow, that’s a lot of trust,” Culkin, who was sitting right next to Pascal, responded. “At first, I was so earnest and happy about the success of the character in the show, I would let them! In New York!” Pascal added. “And then I remember getting a bit of an eye infection.” His fellow actors present at the roundtable joked that his prior eye infection must be the reason behind Pascal frequently wearing glasses now. The Wonder Woman 1984 actor also addressed getting hit by widespread popularity after starring as Joel Miller alongside another Game of Thrones alum Bella Ramsey in HBO's The Last of Us.

Pascal talked about how he is called the internet's “daddy" these days. “Yeah, I'm having fun with it,” Pascal said, adding that he thinks the title comes from the bunch of fatherly characters he's portrayed in recent TV hits. “The daddy thing seems a little role-related. There was a period when The Mandalorian is very daddy to baby Grogu. Joel is very daddy to Ellie in The Last of Us. These are daddy parts. That’s what it is,” he added.

The roundtable discussants erupted into bouts of laughter when Bridges jokingly asked Pascal if he is a "daddy" or not. “I’m not a daddy,” Pascal responded and added, “And I’m not going to be a daddy!” Culkin chimed in to remark that not all actors who are fathers or play fathers are fortunate enough to receive the "daddy" designation. Well, Pascal is at a high point of his career with a dedicated fanbase but we guess he learned his lessons and he won't allow strangers to shove their fingers in his eye socket to take a selfie anymore.
