‘Power Slap’ Suspends Six Athletes Over Drug Use and Twitterati Has Dope Reactions | “That’s Wild”

Getting suspended from your own game is like a slap on the face or maybe it isn't...if you're getting suspended from slapping. The Nevada Athletic Commission has temporarily suspended six Power Slap competitors after they tested positive for a variety of prohibited substances. According to the United States Anti-Doping Agency, the six UFC fighters have been suspended for using prohibited substances since the beginning of 2022. The six Power Slap competitors have been suspended for a variety of reasons, according to Nevada Deputy Attorney General Joel Bekker and MMAFighting.com—hormone and metabolic modulators GW-1516, sulfone, sulfoxide and clomiphene; narcotic buprenorphine and its metabolite norbuprenorphine; anabolic steroids nor androsterone, drostanolone, tamoxifen, and boldenone; phentermine, a stimulant that can be prescribed for weight loss.
T.J. Thomas, who competed in a slap-fighting bout on March 9, 2023, was suspended after testing positive for clomiphene, a hormone and metabolic modulator. Jay Rivera, who competed in a slap-fighting bout on March 11, was suspended after testing positive for GW-1516, sulfone, sulfoxide, hormone and metabolic modulators. Chris Thomas was suspended after testing positive for Buprenorphine, a narcotic, and its metabolite norbuprenorphine. Andrew Provos was suspended after testing positive for Buprenorphine, a narcotic and its metabolite norbuprenorphine. Isaih Quinones was suspended after testing positive for Norandrosterone, drostanolone, tamoxifen and boldenone, which are anabolic steroids. After listing all of the names and banned substances, the commission approved the temporary suspensions, which will be in effect until a full disciplinary hearing is held. The Nevada Athletic Commission chairman, Anthony Marnell, then reacted to the lengthy list of slap-fighting suspensions. "Is there like a big bowl of performance-enhancing drugs down there somewhere that I don’t know about? I haven't seen this in quite a while. I didn't know you needed to use steroids to slap but I guess we're going to find out." Fans on Twitter had pretty dope reactions as well. "Surprising. I thought for sure those guys would have favored healthy life choices," commented @tchendoh. "They should allow them to do as many narcotics as they want. It would make a little more sense knowing they aren't doing that sober," joked @GruncleMc.
