Simu Liu Turns 50 Cent's Rap Into Hilarious Country Song And People Can't Get Enough of It

Shang Chi fame and the future Ken doll, Simu Liu is a man of many talents. The 33-year-old star who was an accountant before switching his career to Hollywood is also a talented singer. The audience got proof of that when he got the party started on the stage during an appearance on That’s My Jam. It is a musical game show hosted by Jimmy Fallon where Liu got challenged to perform rapper 50 Cent’s famous rap track In Da Club but with a twist.
Liu had to give the rap number a country spin and perform it like a country music track. He delivered like an absolutely authentic country music star. According to TODAY, an exclusive clip of Liu’s crooning was released and the actor didn’t seem one bit nervous to set the stage on fire. In the show’s Musical Genre Challenge, Fallon began by explaining the segment to all the guests.

"In this challenge, you're going to get a song title in a completely different musical genre. Then, you're going to have to sing that song in that style," Fallon elaborated. Liu looked a bit puzzled momentarily when his song and genre ended up being In Da Club by 50 Cent and Bro-Country, respectively. "You guys realize I'm the only non-professional musician here, right?" the actor questioned the crowd. "As long as it's clear." Liu was also joined by other guests like Chloe x Halle and Adam Lambert who are all popular musicians.

But the Barbie actor did not lose his nerve and he took to the stage confidently, walking up to the mic and announcing, "All right, y'all, let's take it to Nashville real quick." Along with the beats of the unmistakable country music, Liu began singing the well-known lyrics with an added southern twang to each word of the rap which went: "Go shawty / It's your birthday / We gone party like it's your birthday."

The crowd started vibing to the song as they started waving their hands while Liu performed. Host Jimmy Fallon, Chloe x Halle and Lambert added to the fun by becoming Liu's backup dancers for a while. The unaired episode of That's My Jam is indeed promising to be an entertaining one. Liu rose to fame as Shang Chi in Marvel's 2021 film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and ever since then he has been flooded with movie offers. But along with all the success comes a bit of controversy in every celebrity's life.

According to Evie Magazine, the upcoming Greta Gerwig's directorial venture Barbie has been facing backlash for casting Liu as one of the Ken dolls. In 2019, the actor allegedly had a Reddit account tied to problematic comments including one on pedophilia and hate against the gay community. A bunch of Twitter posts roasted the actor's appearance in Barbie and even declared that they will be "ignoring Simu Liu" in the movie. The full episode of the musical show is yet to air and people can check it out on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
