Whoopi Goldberg Miffed After Co-Host Says She Farts a Lot On Sets and Boasts About It | "Why Did You Tell Everybody?"
Whoopi Goldberg is known for stirring up controversies by expressing her frequently contentious ideas on her daytime chat show, The View but recently the actress-turned-TV host has been making a buzz online for a completely different reason: her habit of passing gas on air. According to Page Six, Whoopi Goldberg wasn't too pleased when Sunny Hostin, her co-host stated she has been breaking the wind on the daytime show.
In the words of the talk show presenter, she and the other women recently received new coasters for their coffee mugs on set. Before that, she claimed that the mugs would make noises similar to farting anytime they moved, and the audience allegedly mistook that sound for an actual fart. The person who "actually passes the most gas on set" during each episode, according to Hostin, is none other than Goldberg herself.
Hostin made this startling revelation about 67-year-old Goldberg on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on April 27, 2023. She also confirmed that Goldberg later confronted her for that as well. “It just turned into this big thing and so Whoopi said, ‘Why did you tell everybody I fart all the time?’ and I was like, ‘Because you joke about farting all the time and I’m across from the table,'" Hostin said, as per the outlet.
“I can’t smell it! Whoever smelt it dealt with it, so I just had no idea. She said, ‘Thanks a lot,’ but I mean, Whoopi and I are very close, so she was OK,” Hostin concluded. Since it was all good between the ladies, Cohen apologized to Hostin for asking the embarrassing question and added that “people are just ready to pounce on everything.” But the attentive viewers of the daytime show have been looking closely to spot the moments when they can hear a farting noise.

According to Daily Mail, doctors have revealed exactly what might be causing Goldberg's on-air flatulence—detailing how her diet and her struggle with sciatica could be the ones to blame. Dr. Ahmed Albusoda, a gastroenterologist at The Princess Grace Hospital in London, told the outlet, "In general, people with sciatica are less active which is a risk factor for constipation because there is more fermenting in the stools. They also take painkillers and a lot of those can cause constipation because they cause more fermentation and gas in the stools."
Goldberg was diagnosed with sciatica in 2021 which caused her to step away from the show for a week last summer. We still don't know if the coasters or the host were responsible for the live farting sounds, but we don't wish to hear more of that while enjoying our daytime shows.
