Man Discovers That His Tinder Date Is His Childhood Rival Who Stole His “Precious Balloon”
Love and fate are unpredictable and they can catch us unawares. Just as one cannot predict what will happen after our deaths, similarly, we cannot foretell from where Cupid will strike and we'll fall hopelessly in love. So when an unexpected love story sweeps you off your feet, buckle up because sometimes, fate also plays a grand joke on us.
In a Reddit post, an anonymous OP, u/thatballoonkid shared his story about how fate played a funny game with him and it's hilariously wholesome. OP declared that he doesn't care what anybody thinks but "fate is real." OP began telling the story by narrating a childhood incident and how it came back into his life with a twist. He explained, "The very first person I've ever hated was a girl from my childhood who stole my precious balloon." He shared that the incident happened at a hospital he was admitted to as a child.
"I was about nine then and was an inpatient for private reasons. The hospital was far from home, so my parents couldn't see me often but on one particular day, my mom left me a balloon with a "get well soon" on it," OP added. He had a fixation with it because the balloon made him feel close to his parents. Then one evening, OP left the ward and got lost as people crowded him. "The balloon slipped from my hand, and I went after it.... only for this one girl about my age to grab it. Welp! When I asked for my balloon back, refusing, she ran to her mom." OP revealed he was a shy kid so he let the girl take his "precious" balloon and was left with a grudge for life.
Fast forward to an adult OP who matched with a girl on Tinder. Their relationship began and they decided to go out on a date. Both of them discussed their life and past regrets. The girl then slipped a secret and said, "She stole a balloon at a hospital from a boy years ago but has since regretted it. She says she would apologize to the boy given the chance." Woah, LOL. It dawned on OP that the girl he fell for turned up his antagonist. OP continued, "I couldn't stop laughing out loud, and she'd been trying to figure out why. I said I just found it really funny but didn't tell her that boy is literally me." Haha!! The man said, "I'm just waiting for the perfect chance to tell her and see the look on her face."
One fateful story, right? The OP also updated Reddit users about his plans to propose to her. "The original plan was to get a similar balloon, stick one of the old photos from that time on my forehead and wear something identical to those hospital gowns." But before he could do all that, the girl found his post online and confronted him. Oops!
But thankfully OP handled it well. "I told her I was over it and the post was exaggerated for clicks but she said she still wanted to apologize anyway and I also apologized." Reddit users couldn't contain their excitement after reading such a fun fateful love story. u/LuLouProper quipped, "And that's how I met your mother." u/PriorSecurity9784 hilariously commented, "Play the long game. Marry her, give her a balloon in the hospital when she’s 90 and then pop it in front of her." u/JorReno wrote, "OP thinks his date doesn't know... but she is secretly waiting to steal a second balloon from him."
