On the final episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Will Ferrel and Harry Styles made sure to leave a mark...or should we say they left no mark of the show at all? On the episode that aired on April 27, 2023, guest Will Farrel first took a sledgehammer to the desk and then during a game of Spill Your Guts, Styles took out some good rage on the desk, absolutely crushing it. The desk ended up being a mangled collection of wood chips by the time they were done and Corden could be seen cowering nearby at all the commotion. He seemed to have accepted the bittersweet reality of bidding the piece goodbye. Perhaps if Corden couldn't use the desk, nobody else should?

When Corden saw the million pieces the desk was in after Ferrel passionately destroyed it, he gave Ferrel a baffled look and Ferrel explained, "It's your last show." Corden replied, "You know it is my last show but it's not the end of the show." Ferrel then justified by saying, "Oh! I didn't put that together," when the audience cracked up. They attempted to put it all back and Styles even tried decorating it with the iconic black mug. Ferrell then joined fellow guest Styles for a final round of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts, which included "bug trifle" and "bull penis," as well as a concoction of "salmon, clam juice, and wasabi." "You've done such an amazing job coming into the late-night space, such original comedy and to establish your place in America while coming from a s***-hole country like England, coming here and holding your own," said Ferrell. "Bravo, great job." Towards the end, Styles doesn't resist and tries his hand at sledgehammering the desk once again. Corden excitedly says, "Very good" and takes a last bite of bull's penis to mark the end of the game.

The British host's eight-year run on the CBS series came to an end. If you're wondering why Corden is leaving the legendary late-night show, it's all because of his family. He revealed to fellow talk show host Drew Barrymore that his work was taking precedence over his family. The Late Late Show finale also featured a video message from US President Joe Biden to Corden. Before the curtain came down, Corden warned his American viewers about the country's divisions, according to the Independent. He told fans, "I've struggled to find the words, to sum up what these past eight years have meant to me. We started with Obama then Trump then a global pandemic. I’ve watched America change a lot over these past few years, I’ve watched divisions grow, and I felt a sense of negativity. I guess all I really want to say is, I implore you to remember what America signifies to the rest of the world. My entire life, it’s always been a place of optimism and joy..." He added before bidding goodbye, "We have to try the best we can to look for the light, look for the joy. It’s out there. That's all this show has ever been about. Thank you for letting me do this. Thank you for letting me into your home every night."
