"Maybe because his personality is average and mine is banging," the 29-year-old smoothly responded to one troll.
Society often compares two individuals in a relationship based on their social status, wealth, and physical appearance. A person who is considered less attractive according to conventional beauty standards is often criticized or trolled if they happen to have a good-looking partner.
A woman got mercilessly trolled on the internet for marrying a conventionally attractive man since she was perceived as less attractive than her husband. Such ridiculous comparisons can be embarrassing for a couple and affect their mental health and self-esteem.
But Hazel McBride on TikTok doesn’t seem to be fazed by the internet trolls. She has taken to TikTok to mock people’s attitude about them by calling herself “average looking” and her husband Paul “insanely hot.”
The 29-year-old McBride has spoken up against the online harassment she faced on her other social media profiles as well. According to Tyla, a TikTok user said that her husband, probably “cares about her inner beauty instead of looks.” But Hazel bit back at the user and wrote: “Maybe because his personality is average and mine is banging.”
Earlier, a social media user made fun of Hazel by writing: "He is literally doing charity work by being with her." However, Hazel was quick to establish that their relationship was not based on looks. In the viral video on TikTok which has garnered over 11 million views so far, Hazel can be seen lovingly gazing at her husband and then at the camera as the caption in the video reads: "When are we gonna see insanely hot men with average-looking women?"
In a candid revelation, Hazel said that she and Paul first connected during a vacation in Tenerife, Spain, four years ago. She worked there as a killer whale trainer. Hazel seems to have switched professions to become an author and podcaster now and she regularly creates content with and about her husband.
Countless netizens have shown up to support her on the viral video and even called her prettier than her husband. TikTok user @jintymia wrote: "She’s very dressed down on purpose for this. It’s a joke. She’s fabulous. Look at her other posts. Gorgeous couple." Another user @m___q___t1 wrote: "We see a happy couple together and that's what matters." Other people in the community addressed that “looking average isn’t an insult and it’s toxic positivity to disregard how someone sees themselves."
Some users on TikTok questioned if her husband’s good looks make her self-conscious, to which Hazel replied, "Nope! I am so secure in our relationship and in myself."
Videos like these are part of a popular TikTok trend where men or women happily show off their better-looking partners and call themselves less glamorous. But it’s evident that Hazel and other women like her are perfectly content in their relationship with a “hotter” spouse.
